June Is Bustn' Out All Over

 June 2019

The title is a fun and whimsical song from the Oscar and Hammerstein musical production of Carousel (look up the lyrics). It is a reflection that we wait all year for summer because it offers ‘the’ time of relaxation, vacation, and much deserved rest. We endure the winter cold and the gradual advancement of spring to welcome, with open arms, the summer warmth, breezes, and longer days.

Summer is a time when school is out and children plan days of playing with friends at a host of locations ranging from pools, parks, and of course – the backyard! Summer it a season, a destination, and a tradition to humanity that is built into our culture.

Summer is also the most popular time for vacations, as this is when families are likely to be together (when schedules conflict the least). Unfortunately, prices, occupancy, and expectation are also the highest during the summer because we wait so long for something that lasts so short.

Worship, prayer, and praise continue in the summer along with vacations as God’s people continue to gather, give thanks, and remember that He is the source of all blessings. Yes, we love the summer and we see it as a time of rest, renewal, and adventure; all of which are also experienced, shared, and celebrated whenever we gather together in the name of the Lord.

Celebrate and welcome the opportunities of the summer; share the Word of God, grow in grace, and give thanks and praise in all things.
