Teaching Us To Love

 July 2020

We continue to support one another as our world diligently and faithfully looks for the means and solutions to bring people back together. We hold on to hope that provides strength and understanding as we watch or Lord work in the world and through His people.

AND: We give thanks! We have everything we need as God does indeed provide for us. We not only have life but abundant life; that we not only survive with each other but thrive in life together. Our confinement, separation, and struggles with isolation are not the end or a new-normal; they are indeed the means by which we will learn how to ‘love-one-another’ as we have first been loved.

We do very well at caring for our friends, family, neighbors, and loved ones. Our encounter and experience with COVID-19 is teaching us to love more completely (if we look for God in the world)! We are learning to respect, consider, and protect the lives, health, and safety of complete strangers because we take the necessary measures to ‘place them first’. It is not pleasant wearing a mask, it is not easy keeping our distance, it is not comfortable adjusting the movement of our life; and yet we do so in love.

We are mindful of the stranger and his/her fears, concerns, and worries, and we show them that we care by changing our habits and routines FOR THEM. We ask, expect, and desire nothing in return for our actions; we do hope and pray they see the love of God for them through our actions, which we know are guided by the Holy Spirit.

May all the world come to know what has been revealed to us by faith: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39 NIV)
